Practicing Presence for Trauma & Stress Recovery | Michelle Dixon

Mindfulness for Trauma Care

A short online course with Michelle Dixon

Mindfulness for trauma recovery isn't a bandaid to relieve symptoms. It's about retraining your body/mind/spirit to recognize that you are safe in the present moment, which guides you deeply into your nervous system and helps it learn how to rewire for healing, so that you can experience lasting peace.

My 3 step process for practicing presence in this short but powerful mini-course retrains your nervous system out of traumatic responses.

Hi everyone! In case we haven't met, I'm Michelle. Although I can say in honesty that I have a very blessed life now, by my mid-40's, life was not always this good.

After my divorce, I had a profound breakdown and struggled with many trauma symptoms. I trained as a practitioner in order to heal myself, and to eventually help others on the same path.

This is the context in which I developed my 6 core practices for peace, drawing on a lifetime of contemplative study as well as on my practitioner training.

I bring to it nearly a decade of experience working with trauma therapies, relationship coaching, and bodywork, having facilitated over 30 workshops and retreats around the world. My use of bodywork to relieve suffering and create flow has been crucial in understanding how presence operates in the body, and how certain mindfulness practices can create healing states in the present moment.

Once I began using these practices with myself and with my clients, always in a particular order (the order of the 6 core practices), I noticed they led to reliable outcomes: an expansion of consciousness, deepened self-love, and a greater ability to achieve the manifestation of goals, from income to relationship. This was true both in my own life, and in that of my clients.

The first step is cultivating the ability to become present, and this is why I am offering this mini-training.

Through these practices, I found the peace from which to re-imagine my life, and manifest the relationship and lifestyle I desired. Now I am committed to using these core practices to help others do the same.

“This longing you express
is the return message.
The grief you cry out from
draws you toward union.
Your pure sadness that wants help
is the secret cup."

- Rumi, Love Dogs

What you need to know about trauma.

Trauma comes in many forms, whether it's a single event, or extreme stress over a period of time.

Both trauma and stress affect your emotional reactions and physiological responses. Symptoms could be panic attacks, sleep difficulties, over-emotionality or shutdown, hypersensitivity, dissociation, social anxiety and much more.

In any case, it makes it difficult for you to function on a day to day basis.

If you've had an experience of suffering, whether it's trauma, extreme stress, breakdown, or you are grappling with daily anxiety or panic, depression and more ... then the first step is to help your body-mind feel safe, at ease - in other words, so that you know you are NOT in danger.

This means settling your nervous system.

The practice of presence is vital here, because the traumatised nervous system is responding to the past, and projecting it into the future. It doesn't know that you are safe, right now.

However, for the traumatised nervous system, not just any practice of presence will help.

The individual with a trauma history must be cautious about many practices out there, as not everything is suitable for a nervous system that has been impacted by trauma or extreme stress.

This "Presence for Peace" mini-course teaches you the fundamentals of how presence works in a traumatised or stressed individual, plus it gives you practices that you can begin doing today.

Outcomes of "Presence for Peace"

1. Faster shifting out of suffering and into peace. In a difficult moment (in terms of symptoms) you will be able to apply the presence for peace practice in order to shift out of acute suffering. With practice, this outcome becomes easier to achieve.

2. Greater self-compassion as a result of truly understanding HOW and WHY the stressed and/or traumatised nervous system does not feel safe, and how this causes suffering.

3. A profound mind shift when you realize and can implement a very simple practice for achieving a sense of safety in the present moment.

4. You will have a strong foundation for the kind of recovery that can shift you into even greater self-awareness, self-compassion, and soul alignment.

→ 1 hour video training explaining why healing trauma or stress must begin with a practice of presence and how to do this powerfully.

I have used this practice myself successfully.

This isn't one of those 'do as I say, not as I do" courses. I only teach what I have personally experienced.

I do this practice with all my therapeutic clients.

As a practitioner who has worked with hundreds of clients quite in-depth, I can promise you that I use these theories and this practice regularly. I can say with my hand on my heart that learning this practice is the FOUNDATION for all other healing work. Be truly present = truly begin to heal.

My approach is backed by science and has been used in contemplative traditions over millenia.

I haven't 'reinvented the wheel,' but I HAVE taken what we know from science and spirituality and honed in on the key concepts and practices that work for real people struggling with real symptoms - and formulated a practice that actually works in practice!

The Practicing Presence training is the beginning of a comprehensive roadmap to unravel your negative self-talk, stories of inadequacy, stress and suffering, supporting you to unfold into your fullest potential in every area of your human experience, including (but not limited to) creating abundance and finding love.

"I have had individual sessions, couples coaching plus group workshops (retreat) with Michelle over the last 7 years. When I first met Michelle I was hanging onto an old relationship and was unhappy and shut down in my body. She really helped me develop a healthy relationship with myself. Michelle is gifted in dissecting core relationship challenges in a clear and articulate manner. I always felt supported and understood and she helped me change my pattern of how I used to do relationships. In one session, using NLP and hypnotherapy, she helped me create a heart connection and intention to connect with the man who would become my future partner. It also helped me finally let go of past relationships. Since then, she has helped me navigate my relationship with myself and also with my partner, including the first stumbling blocks in my relationship. She did it in a way that helped me stay in my power and communicate well. I’ve been in a relationship with this man for five years now, and we are getting married next year! I highly recommend working with Michelle and I continue to be in touch with her."

"I am a male in my 40's and I am a survivor of childhood and sexual abuse. My sadness led me to edge of 3 suicide attempts in my adult life, all of those wanting to extinguish the pain after each of the new trauma events. Michelle's nurturing nature and her approach to treating the person as a whole is what is helping me recover and grow. Her connected work at all levels has helped me leave the trauma in the past, and strive for a better future. She has helped me overcome the hurdles of being stuck in a victim mindset. I am now a true believer that the body holds trauma, and without awareness and assistance, the trauma keeps surfacing to either be ignored or addressed."
